What are the enrollment and license requirements?

A student must meet the state minimum age requirement and submit: a valid state or federal photo ID, a high school diploma or equivalent, a completed interest form, the required application fee, and a completed enrollment package. Two interviews are required. All incoming students must attend an orientation on the first day of class.

Are vaccinations required?

We do not require vaccinations for admission into our programs. Anyone seeking vaccination information should contact their local public health department or consult with their healthcare provider.

Question 3

Can I transfer hours from another state?

Accepted Answer

Our apprenticeship school only accepts transfer hours from students from another state-certified apprenticeship school. Our traditional school may accept your hours. Please send your transcript to admissions@bgbschoolofcareers.com and request an official copy be sent from your previous school.

Question 4

How long does it take to become licensed?

Each program length varies depending on your state's required hours for licensure. Subjects include haircutting, hair coloring, facials, makeup, manicuring, salon management, and more. Upon completion, students are qualified to take the state licensing exam.

Can I use my license in other states?

All states have their own board of cosmetology. Most states reciprocate, but not all. Contact the state board of cosmetology in your desired state to apply for reciprocity. We can help you determine what additional hours may be needed.

Do you offer online classes?

Georgia: Our Georgia campus offers all theory online; practical is on campus. Tennessee: All theory is through distance learning (virtually); practical is on-the-job training. We continue to expand our online offerings.

How much does cosmetology school cost?

Tuition rates vary by program and state requirements. Students will be given tuition rates when inquiring about admission to the school of their choice.

Is financial aid available?

Currently we do not offer Title IV financial aid. However, we do have payment plans and student loans available through our third-party affiliate loan agencies. Your Career Planning Specialist will provide information about financial assistance options.

Do I need to pay all tuition up front?

Accepted Answer

You may pay in full, put down a deposit and set up a payment arrangement, or apply for a loan through one of our affiliate agencies. Any remaining balance may be paid on a customizable monthly basis. We strive to make education as affordable as possible.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes. Scholarships are currently available to all new incoming students. Please check with Admissions for current availability.

What happens after I graduate?

Black Girl Beauty School of Careers cares about its students. We post employer flyers on our Job Board. All graduating students receive a lifetime membership to our association and a lifetime mentorship opportunity.

Can I work immediately after receiving my certificate?

No. You must be licensed before working as a professional. However, if you are on an apprenticeship program, you should already be with a salon for on-the-job training and may continue there until you pass the state exam.
